Presbyterian Board of Publication, Philadelphia, 1859.  Hard cover, 317 pages.  Green cloth embossed on front and rear boards, gilt lettering and decoration on spine.  Corners, spine ends and edges show some wear; some spots on boards and a stain on spine.  Binding sound with headbands, all pages secure; outer page block tanned with a few age spots.  Yellow end papers and paste-downs, black & white frontispiece plus two other illustrations.  Pages lightly tanned, illustration pages have tanned/darkened.  No prior owner markings, no pen or ink on pages, however there are some fox spots and small stains/soil; a few straightened corner bends; all text is very readable.  Laid in is a clipping from an Australian newspaper, being a poem ‘The Worth of a Wife’ by Merry Andrew.  ‘This volume is designed as a sequel to the “Gospel Fountain,” in which, after noticing our fallen and ruined condition, we discussed the doctrines of atonement, justification by faith, the agency of the Holy Spirit in renewing the heart, sanctification, good works, and the perseverance of the saints.  These topics, connected with those which are discussed in the following conversations, form a summary of what are usually styled “the doctrines of grace.” (from Preface)
