Random, New York, 1939.  Two volumes in slip case.  Hard covers, 967 pages in total.  Very good; binding sound with headbands; bit of soil and age toning to boards; bit of soil on outer page blocks; red top stains; spines a bit darkened.  Red slip case with paste-on label shows edge and cover wear, some scrapes and age spotting, 3 ¾” tear along top edge.  Book interiors are clean and unmarked; black & white illustrations plus full page colour illustrations.  Translated from the Russian by Constance Garnett with an Introductory essay by Thomas Mann and Illustrations by Philip Reiman.
