The Macmillan Company, New York, 1947, Large Print Edition; appears first printing thus.  Hard cover, 326 pages.  Blue cloth with gold, silver and bronze lettering on spine.  Some edge wear; some corner wear, with lower front corner worn to board and some fraying; spine ends bumped with some wear.  Blue top stain is lightly spotted.  Binding sound; slight flare to boards.  Dust jacket shows edge and cover wear, age-toning, short edge tears and small losses at corners and spine ends.  Book interior clean and unmarked.  Complete and unabridged reproduction of the original Macmillan edition.  Author’s first book which won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1948.  Front flap states ‘The stories on which the immortal Pulitzer Prize winning musical, South Pacific, was based’ – this award was won in 1950, so this edition would have been printed after 1950.  ‘This collection of tales is set against the background of the South Pacific … The tales are told by a young naval officer whose duties on an Admiral’s staff take him up and down the islands.’ (from front flap)
