Hard cover, with Dombey and Son being chapters 48 to 62 containing pages 681 to 898, and Oliver Twist being chapters 1 to 53 containing pages 1 to 415. Purple cloth over boards with chipped paper label on spine; edge, cover, corner and spine end wear, bit of board exposed at lower front corner and lower front edge, small tears to cloth and small losses at spine ends; some spots, fading and mottling to cloth. Binding with headbands cracked at front and rear endpapers, all pages secure; top edge gilt, fore and bottom edges untrimmed (some pages have not been opened). Old water mark at fore to bottom edges, not affecting readability; occasional age spot. Illustrations by “Phiz” (H. K. Browne) and George Cruikshank; all illustrations present with printed tissue guards intact. One of the first thousand impressions from a new set of plates, with publisher’s facsimile signature.
