No publisher shown and no date, but estimate the 1880s, as the 1^st edition is dated 1868, the 2^nd edition revised is 1876, and the 15^th edition 1907.  Translated according to the Vulgate With Notes, Maps, Chronological and Other Tables.  Brown cloth over boards with gilt lettering on front and spine; front board ruled and embossed in black; rear board blind ruled and embossed.  Boards show edge, corner and spine end wear, some small spots and stains, damp stain on rear board.  Front and rear hinges cracked; all pages securely bound.  Inscription on FEP; remainder of interior unmarked; a few straightened dog-ears; occasional small spots in margins.  Foxing, primarily to the first and last few pages, and to pages where maps have been bound in.  Small upper margin edge tear at pp. 107/8, with presumed burn mark in upper margins of pp. 108/9.  Introductory chapter consists of 19 pages; Tables 14 pages; Summary of Contents 11 pages; Contents 1 page; Narrative proper 224 pages, and 4 pages of Index.  2 colour maps.  ‘The object of the present work is to bring before the reader the contents of the books … in the form under which they can be most easily and thoroughly comprehended from a historical point of view.’ (from Introductory Chapter)
