Short novel about an old Cuban fisherman, Santiago, who after a long stretch of being unable to catch any fish, goes out into the Gulf Stream off the coast of Florida and there struggles with a giant marlin for days. The novel was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953 and Hemingway was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954.
